Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Cottage Cloth?
Cottage Cloth is our Canadian take on the classic Swedish dishcloth—made from 70% cellulose and 30% cotton, biodegradable and compostable. It’s like combining the absorbency of a sponge or shammy with quick-drying convenience.

These cloths are versatile—they can:

  • Wipe countertops, windows, and appliances
  • Scrub dishes, pots, and pans
  • Clean bathrooms, mirrors, and floors
  • Dust or dry pets & vehicles
  • Boats
  • Fishing and Hunting Lodges
  • Be used with just water, vinegar, or mild cleaners

With proper care, they last 6–9 months or up to 200 washes, depending on usage.

Each cloth can absorb 15–20× its weight in water and lasts for up to 200 washes, replacing 15 to 34 rolls of paper towels over its lifespan.
What are the environmental benefits of Cottage Cloth?

Each cloth replaces up to 17–40 paper towel rolls and is 100% compostable at end of life. Made with water-based inks and no plastic, they dramatically reduce waste and carbon footprint.

  • Rinse, lay flat or hang to dry after each use; drying within 1–2 hours helps prevent bacteria growth
  • Deep-clean by machine wash, placing on the top dishwasher rack, boiling for 3–5 minutes, or microwaving while damp for 1–1.5 minutes
  • Avoid tumble drying frequently to extend lifespan
